Why your heart is not desperately wicked

by calebo on August 19, 2008

Watch the video below by Steve Mcvey, Christian Religion Lie #74 “Your Heart Is Desperately Wicked and my comments follow…

This is an old testament saying–an old testament quote–an old covenant idea (Jeremiah 17:9).

But we are not under the old covenant… the old law… the old testament “way of doing things”. Nope. Christ was the fulfillment of all that and with His death, burial, and resurrection completed all that and finished it once and for all.

And now, because of God’s new covenant with us — through Christ you have a new heart…

This is the new covenant with God you have.

Why is this lie bad?

Because it will keep you focused on yourself and not Christ. Not on God. You won’t trust your own heart, you won’t trust God’s leading in your life because you will assume you are wicked “at your core”.

So you’ll be looking for rules, regulations, and a list of “things to do” and “things not to do” to follow–instead of looking to Christ. Instead of looking to your relationship with God as your source and the lead of your life.

The TRUTH is: You are not desperately wicked. You are…

Because of Christ, you are now…

  • a child of God (John 1:12)
  • a slave of righteousness (Romans 6:18)
  • a joint heir with Christ, sharing His inheritance with Him (Romans 8:17)
  • a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • a son of God and one in Christ (Galatians 3:26,28)
  • a saint (1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:2)
  • And a thousand other righteous, holy, things all because Christ is your life now…

None of these things sound like you have a heart that is desperately wicked right?

That’s because the idea that a believer in Christ still has a wicked heart is totally and completely a lie. So don’t believe it anymore.

With Love :)

The “mind” of Christ…. yep. Our old habits still surface from time to time, though. Well, actually, they surface quite often. hmmm… Good thing that how I end up behaving at times does not define who I am! Yay! :-)
