Why you do NOT need more “spiritual power”

by calebo on August 1, 2008

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #68: “We Need Spiritual Power” and my comments follow:

Geeze.

How much power do you need?

Christ said in Acts 1:8 (emphasis mine):

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

So here’s the question you desperately need to ask yourself when you think you need more power…

When did the Holy Spirit go into you?

At the moment of Salvation of course!

So now that you have this Holy Spirit, you have the life of Christ indwelling in you. Because of this you are now a partaker of the divine nature… you’re literally IN Christ.

So you already HAVE all the power you could ever need, because Christ says once you receive the Holy Spirit you receive power!

You see, Christ is in you, and ready to express Himself through you each and every day, your ONLY job as a Christian is to LET Him do this, this is your part in the “co-labor” of life as a Christian (1 Corinthians 3:9).

Your job is NOT to:

  • Act like Christ
  • Try to be a good person
  • look to the Bible to see what’s right and wrong
  • try to condemn, shame and scare people into accepting Christ…

Your only Job is to let Christ express Himself through you moment by moment, day by day.

How will you know when you are doing this? It’s EASY. Christ is love. So when you are loving God and loving people (unconditionally, not for selfish gain) then you can be sure Christ is doing “His thing” through you!

Why is this Lie harmful?

Because it will keep you searching for more power. Thinking you have to “Do” something to get this power. More prayer, more Bible reading, more fasting, more self-denial, more everything so that you can “earn” this power.

And that of course keeps you focused on yourself and NOT on the one who literally IS your life. Christ.

Focusing on God and Christ and what they’re doing through you in your life is the way to lead a great Christian life… And…

You do NOT need more power to live this Christian life!

You already have it ALL in Christ.

You already have all the power in the world because it’s not you doing it… it’s not your power… it is Christ’s power working through you. This is why Paul said such things as I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phillipians 4:13)

So don’t believe this lie that you need more spiritual power anymore — you have all you need in Christ.

With Love :)
