Why you are perfect no matter how you act

by calebo on August 18, 2008

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #73 “Nobody Is Perfect” and my comments follow…

Sounds strange that this would be a lie right?

The reason why this sounds strange is we look at the behavior of people to determine their perfection–BUT God looks at the heart. God looks at the SPIRIT of a person.

Here’s how it works…

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #72 “Marriage Is A Fifty-Fifty Proposition and my comments follow…

NOTE: I’m not currently married –so I’m by NO MEANS an expert on this whole marriage thing — but I’d say this post is most definitely applicable to Christian relationships… or… loving relationships of any kind.

Sounds good doesn’t it?

A Marriage relationship or Christian relationship is 50/50. Equal.

It’s often given advice that sounds logical.

When you believe this lie,  you believe you are supposed to “meet each other half way” in your marriage or Christian relationship.

You insist on your own rights — you insist that your partner gives you those rights — and that they meet you half way.

But here’s the problem with that way of thinking…

Watch the video by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #71 “How You Behave Affects How God Feels About You” and my comments follow…

This is a lie that affects every one of us at some point in time.

Because it is centered in our emotions… and our perception and paradigm of God is often based on what we experience in life, not in WHO God really is, or what His word really says about Him.

This LIE is based on every day life…

You see, in our every day life, we are all dealing with other humans, other finite beings — other people who (99.9999% of the time) all relate to us on a CONDITIONAL level…

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie: “#70 We Should Live By Christian Morals and my comments follow…

Doesn’t this saying sound good?

Doesn’t it sound right?

Well, guess what? It’s an out-right LIE!

We don’t live by morals, we live by a LIFE that transcends morals — let me explain…

Why you should NOT “work for God”

by calebo on August 5, 2008

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #69: “We Should Work For Godand my comments (of course!) follow…

If you get in touch with your emotions when you hear this lie, you’ll be able to tell that it makes you feel like a slave…

It makes you feel like you’re OBLIGATED to do something for God. Obligated to “work for Him”…

But is this really what scripture teaches?

So I almost died today. I was 5 seconds away from certain death, maiming, or dismemberment.

It’s true, let me tell you the story.

I started today like any other, driving from my dad’s house towards town so I can use the wi-fi to do various amounts of internet “work” (like this lovely blog).

I had just gotten off the on ramp for I-95 North and merged onto the highway (in the far right lane of 3 lanes, of course). There was a big 18 wheeler truck to my left, and a slow moving car in front of me. Luckily there was about 20 feet in front of me where if I hurried I could speed up… get real close to the car in front of me… and squeeze in front of the big truck to my left in the center lane.

As long as the 18 wheeler kept his same speed it would all work out well…

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #68: “We Need Spiritual Power” and my comments follow:

Geeze.

How much power do you need?

Christ said in Acts 1:8 (emphasis mine):

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

So here’s the question you desperately need to ask yourself when you think you need more power…

Why you were NOT “saved to serve”

by calebo on July 31, 2008

Watch the vid below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #67 “We Are Saved To Serve” and my comments follow…

There’s a lot of focus on “serving” in the modern state of Christendom.

So a lot of lies you’ll hear start with “God did this for you… now you should do this for Him” etc, and “God wants you to serve him”…

And the all time, most self-absorbed, narcissistic one of all “God NEEDS you to serve Him”.

Making you think that God NEEDS you to do stuff for Him because He isn’t powerful or capable enough to do anything on His own.

These types of lies…

Watch the video below by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #66 “You Will Be Blessed Because You Titheand my crazy comments follow as always…

It doesn’t matter what you think, what you’ve heard preached… if you believe this lie… then you’re wrong!

The idea that tithing will get you God’s blessings is an old testament idea.

I think Steve McVey makes a great point by saying that we all read scripture with a certain “lens” over our eyes. And that Churches and Church leaders CERTAINLY read scriptures about tithing with the lens of…

“We need some money!”

Don’t you think?

I’m not accusing any one church or church leader of being unscrupulous, it’s just 99.9% of Christians treat scripture study like this:

Steve McVey is just an old softie!

by calebo on July 29, 2008

Go check out this page by Steve Mcvey here.

Ole Steve is just an ole softie if you ask me :)

Actually, this is one of the most tear jerking love stories I’ve ever heard. I guess it’s his anniversery and he wrote a “thank you” to God for giving him such a great gift — his wife.

What a love story!

Can you believe the guy actually hit it off with the girl he dated when he was 16?! And it worked out?

That’s 35 years. That’s just crazy! (Crazy in an “Awe! That’s so awesome!” kind of way)…
