STOP Confessing Your Sins!

by calebo on April 7, 2008

Watch the vid by my main man Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #21:”We must continually confess our sins” and my comments follow…

Steve is so Right on with this one.

For some reason, most Christians think that they need to continually confess their sins after receiving salvation to continually get “made right” with God. I’ll keep my explanation as to why this is a total lie SHORT (because I lost a whole blog post earlier)…

When you accepted Christ into your life, accepted His gift of salvation, you — right then and there– were not only forgiven of EVERY sin you already committed… but also EVERY sin you will ever commit — right up until your last dying breath.

“How can that be?” you might ask…

Consider this: when Christ died on the cross, to pay the penalty for ALL your sins, it was 2,000 years ago (give or take). ALL your sins at that time were “future tense” — and He paid the price for them right then and there. Then to add the cherry to the cake He said “It is finished”. Because it was. Once and for all.

You see, to think you’re not already totally forgiven for every sin you’ve ever committed and will ever commit… to think you need to continually go back to God and beg for forgiveness… is to take Jesus Christ and essentially put him on the same level of the “Scapegoat”. The animals in the old testament that priests would slaughter, so their blood would cover the sins of the people.

They had to do this over and over again because the blood of an animal was not a PERFECT sacrifice. Jesus however, was fully man, but also fully PERFECT and fully God. Therefor His ONE act of sacrifice was sufficient to cover the sins of ALL mankind!

So the next time you start to believe this lie that you need to continually confess your sins in order to be forgiven of them… take a moment and think of what MUST be true also, by logic: That Christ would need to go back up on that cross and die for your “newly confessed” sins again, if He didn’t do it right the first time. When you look at it this way, you can see that this one is a big, fat LIE!

I think essentially confessing your sins is a means of telling God that you wronged HIM. For instance, when you tell your father that you did something wrong and forgives you but doesn’t punish you. It more or less helps you then it helps God. Same goes for praying, if we are going to use logic for everything then praying to God would be nonsense.

@ Fadeke: You have already been forgiven … if you realize you sin … simply recognize it and THANK God that you’ve already been forgiven and pay it no mind, continuing in the right direction :)

Caleb
