Why You Don’t Need a Church Or Pastor To Be Your Covering

Watch the video by Steve McVey, Christian Religion Lie #75 “You Need Your Church (Or Pastor) To Be Your Covering and my comments follow…

I never really heard this one told to me when I was growing up. But it seems to be prevelant. Basically it goes like this:

“If you’re not following the “party line” (following the church, or pastor) then you’re taken out of the “covering” or protection of the church. Basically you don’t get any protection from the world or devil because you’re not in the church”.

What a lie this is!

The Bible simply doesn’t teach it…

The Church is simply the body of believers. The people who believe in Christ… who believe in God… NOT a regulated place of worship, or the following of a certain pastor.

You don’t have to be submissive to anyone except Christ. The lowliest homeless person… or… the televangelist on tv are both equal under God.

What’s wrong with this lie?

Basically this is a manipulative way to control people. It’s a way of saying “fall in line… or else!” that pastors or churches use to control the people they come into contact with. It’s not good at all.

And it’s not based on anything the Bible actually says. That’s the biggest problem!

The truth is Christ is your covering!

Because you are in Christ — you’re covered. You’re a partaker of the divine nature now, you’re “in” Christ and Christ is “in” you.

You could never step foot into a church for the rest of your days… or never listen to a pastor preach a sermon ever again, and you’d still be covered and protected because your protection was bought with the blood of Christ.

So don’t believe this lie anymore that you need to “fall in line” and follow a Church of pastor to have a “covering” over you. You are covered (and so much more!) just because you are in Christ.

With Love :)

Great, great, great post!!! My husband and I have poured over church history and the New Testament. No mention anywhere that the gifting of pastor is an office that deserves to be paid a weekly salary…not to mention that a pastor/institutional church has any authority over one’s soul (for “protection”, etc) I find it amazing that no one I know (Christians) even question why in the “gifts” listings in the N.T. they have come to believe that “pastor” is the only “gifting” that deserves a paycheck….and that paycheck comes from an O.T. law of tithing. Ignorance abounds and Satan is pleased. God Help Us!!!! Peace.
