All your problems are NOT from the Devil

Watch the vid below by my main man Steve McVey, “Christian Lie #26: “All your problems are from the devil”" and my comments follow…

I love Steve’s comment in this video:

“It’s a shame how much credit the modern church gives the devil for what happens in our lives”

Steve rightly points to the life of Job in the Bible as an example of someone who knows all about “problems”, he quotes Job 2:10 (the message).

At this point God was bragging about how good a man Job was and Satan claimed it was because God had blessed him so much, that if God would let Satan destory his family and fortune, Job would turn on God. So God said ok, but don’t hurt Job. So Satan was allowed to destory Job’s family and fortune… and Job didn’t turn away. Then Satan claimed if he could take away Job’s health, he’d turn on God. So God allowed Satan to take Job’s health, just don’t kill him. So with God’s permission at this point in the story Satan has given Job a body covered in ulcers and sores…

7-8 Satan left God and struck Job with terrible sores. Job was ulcers and scabs from head to foot. They itched and oozed so badly that he took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself, then went and sat on a trash heap, among the ashes.

9 His wife said, “Still holding on to your precious integrity, are you? Curse God and be done with it!”

10 He told her, “You’re talking like an empty-headed fool. We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days?

Not once through all this did Job sin. He said nothing against God.

Do you see Job’s response?

He said, “If we take the good days why not take the bad days from God?”

God is in control…

Job understood that we have a SOVEREIGN God. That every little detail of our life is handled with care by God. That Satan can’t take a step against one of God’s children without God’s permission.

Job kept His eyes on the TRUTH. God’s love for him… and that kept him from getting caught up in his problems.

A lot of our “trouble” comes from giving Satan more credit than he’s worth. God is in control, even when it seems like He isn’t.

A quick point about this: A lot of times what we think of as “problems” are actually blessings in disguise… it just usually takes the passing of time to realize it.

For instance, when I first was looking for a job I applied to the Fire Dept. because I wanted a “good job”. I passed the physical tests, was on my way to the mental ones, when I got canceled out because of my driving record. At first I thought “Oh no! what a problem!”… BUT I realize now it was a blessing in disguise. Because I didn’t get that job, I started my own business. And then I wrote my first book, “Christ Through Me”… now I have this blog too… NONE of this would of happened if that “problem” of getting canceled out of the recruiting hadn’t occurred!

So it’s easy to get caught up and think every little bad thing in our life is “from the devil”. But it’s a lie. Like Job, be content to accept what God allows… because ultimately it’s ALL good. Keep your eyes focused on Christ, on God and you’ll often see your “problems” are blessings in disguise.
